Clean Hands in Charlottesville

added on: April 29, 2013

How many times a day do you think you wash your hands? We’ve all become more diligent about preventing exposure to germs. Although some sources say we’re washing our hands too much, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says hand washing is the best way to avoid the spread of infection and illness. Their web site even has hand-washing guidelines for the home and workplace. (http://www.cdc.gov/features/handwashing/)

The CDC, American Dental Association (ADA), and even the World Health Organization (WHO) all have strict cleanliness and sterility guidelines for dental practices. Their studies have shown that there’s very little risk of infections to dental patients, but there is risk to dental professionals from their patients.

Cleanliness in Our Dental Office

I want to tell you about the sterile processes we use in our Charlottesville dental office to protect everyone—patients and our team—from exposure to infection or disease. If you’ve visited our office in Charlottesville, then you’ve observed us unwrapping sealed instruments, washing our hands and using gloves and masks when we work on your mouth. But there’s much more to ensuring a sterile environment

At JTK Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we follow or exceed every guideline and regulation set by both the federal government and by the state of Virginia. We use antibacterial soaps and disinfectants on our hands and every surface in your treatment room before your appointment. We wear gloves and masks even for the most basic exams. All of our instruments are cleaned and sterilized in an autoclave according to the guidelines set by the CDC. And our equipment is regularly inspected by state regulators to certify that they’re working properly.

We’re committed to your total health and well-being. Our clean and sterile Charlottesville dental office is our first and most important step in taking care of you!
