I Heard Root Canals Were…

Uncomfortable? Inconvenient? You may have heard a lot of other “tall tales” about root canals as well! At our dental office in Charlottesville, we do everything we can to make sure you’re relaxed, comfortable, and as pain-free as possible for all of our procedures, from filling a cavity, to periodontal therapy, to…root canal treatment!

Why Would I Need a Root Canal?

The pulp and roots of your tooth contain the blood vessels and nerves that your tooth needs to thrive. If the pulp becomes damaged or an infection sets in, you may start to experience soreness, or sensitivity to heat or cold. When the nerves becomes infected, they need to be removed and this treatment is called a root canal.

First, we treat the infection if necessary and remove the damaged or diseased tissue, thoroughly cleaning out all bacteria, infection, or debris. The next step is to fill the tooth’s root so that it’s sealed against any bacteria leaking in and causing another infection.

Once the roots have been filled, we’ll reinforce and protect your tooth by placing a porcelain crown over it. The most important benefit to a root canal is that we can save your natural tooth.

Root canals are just one of our many dental services. Call our Charlottesville dental office at 855.599.5581 if you’re experiencing tooth soreness or pain of any kind. And of course, many problems can be detected early during regular exams, so don’t forget those checkups!
